It ll goes back to 1976 when we didn't get a gold before Moscow (Montreal?). After our humiliating performance, we then set up the Australian Institute of Sport and threw oodles of money at it. The athletes get little cash apart from the odd sponsorship (compared to Chinese winners) yet the amount of money spent on coaches & sport science is now phenomenal. It's part of our national identity. Unfortunately, channel 9 doesn't parade much of the sport unless Aussies are going for a PB or medal. Times have changed - check Gina Rhinehart's contribution and no USSR this year. It's not on the back of your breakfast cereal anymore.
Onto LA, which will be totally wild entertainment wise.
Don't forget the paras soon enough, then onto the Winters.
It'll set the net alive.
