I would like to think so, I reckon that by putting your head together with someone who is technically a competitor, you stand to gain more than you do lose.
Prime example Sigma/Latin.

There would have to be mutual trust and respect of course.

lol, it randomly reminded me of some old English gangster movie I saw years ago, the big crime boss was in cahoots with the police. The cops would tip him off to snitches etc and in return he would give them a nice little bust for the newspaper and everyone was happy, especially the public.
