    We really had a very minimal "first wave" of the Alpha strain which was many times more deadly and at that stage we had no vaccines.

    Omicron which is much more contagious and vaccines are a bit less effective against it, but it is much, much less deadly then Alpha thats for sure.
    Australia has one of the lowest deaths per million population out of all the developed countries that have actually made an effort to accurately record cases and deaths.

    Eg some people quote Sweden or Japan as the ones who have dealt the best out of the "rich" developed countries, however Sweden has about 6x the deaths per million population, and Japan has about 6x the deaths for a very similar amount of cases.

    Omicron is obviously straining our essential services, but probably a good strain to start opening up on IMO
