The latest covid variant Omricon looks like it will evade the vaccines. This sets us back to a time when covid was first taking grip over the world and there were no vaccines (except this time there is an assurance that an effective vaccine will be available in around 3 to 4 months).
The negative impacts are 1. The little hope of students returning to Australia and sending milk back to China is sqashed. 2. Delays in freight could lead to inventory issues. 3. Higher freight costs will result in margin contraction.
positive impact 1. Potential pantry stocking could lead to highly elevated near term sales as happened during mid 2020.
last time there was pantry stocking as a result of the virus the SP hit new all time highs. Ofcourse this is highly unlikely to happen again but there is a chance that the SP could benefit from this latest development in the short term.
