I have looked for the peer reviewed research publications reportedly conducted at Adelaide University but have not been able to find it?. There are plenty of advertorials paid for by Omni which reference a Dr Chris Raynor but no evidence of properly controlled studies.. Advertising is expensive but advertorials referencing science does not constitute science!..
I acknowledge that the guys comments, based on his perception that the benefits of Glucocontrol are derived entirely from the protein content are somewhat misguided, given that protein ultimately contains as many calories as carbohydrates and has its own raft of potential hazards including on kidney function, but he has a point that if you are looking to preload with protein there are cheaper alternatives to the product being promoted by Omni..
The anecdote of the taste issues raised are of course entirely subjective and I in fact find whey protein to be quite sweet and not bitter.. The ingredients in Glucocontrol also include flavouring and sucralose to address the taste issues.. BUT sucralose has debatable health benefits!..
A study in 17 severely obese people who did not regularly consume artificial sweeteners reported that sucralose in fact elevated blood sugar levels by 14%, and insulin levels by 20%. (Sucralose affects glycemic and hormonal responses to an oral glucose load; Center for Human Nutrition, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
[email protected]).. and sucralose appears to have deleterious effects on gut bacteria (Splenda alters gut microflora and increases intestinal p-glycoprotein; Department of Pharmacology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina 27708, USA)..
Which brings me back to the guar gum/gum arabic used in the Omni formula which, because of its fibre content, does actually help reduce blood sugar.. My passing reference to asafoetida is that this herb extract is known to reduce blood sugar, generally has guar gum mixed with it, which helps conteract the potential ill effects of guar gum on the digestive system!!.. and is cheap!.. Most of the benefits attributed to the Omni formula can be easily gained merely by increasing dietary fibre!.. Eat some vegies etc..
There is no doubt that increased affluence in China and India, the diminishment in attention to a balanced diet and associated increase in diabetes will be a boon to some companies.. HOWEVER the Chinese do not have the lactase enzyme needed to break down the lactose found in dairy products..
Despite that, the Chinese infatuation with milk formulas I have to admit has seen BAL, A2M and WHA shares increase dramatically!.. But on the basis of my belief that dairy products do not serve the health interests of their intended Chinese market, I chose to invest in BUB instead..
I do maintain an interest in EVE primarily on the basis of the potential health benefits and possible medical and apiary applications of their melaleuca honey but will not buy into what I can only regard as duplicitous hype generated around bees foraging "nectar" from cannabis, hemp seeds mixed with honey or diabetes panaceas..
Each to their own I guess but I personally try to avoid hype waves..
