My immediate thoughts after seeing the 7:30 report on fraccing and Buru was, "oh no, hope it doesn't become like a lynas (LYC)".
Any opposition has the potential to negatively affect the share price. That is why it is so important to get the traditional owners on side by alleviating their concerns. This can only be done by sincere open communication. It appears thus far, BRU has been doing just that (refer to the 2013 AGM presentation). Can more community engagement be done? Clearly yes, it will not be a waste. I have worked and lived in remote communities of Australia for many years, and I can remember my superiors emphasizing, "The greatest weapon you have is communication".
However, Dr. Keiran Wulff spoke well in the program to alleviate concerns, and to a lesser degree, the mines
minister of WA.
Let's hope more resources are devoted to community engagement and dialogue, it will not be a waste of time or money.
