Recovery factor: STB recovery factor will be significantly higher than ELM, the net result will be that STB will extract more potash per tonne.
Solubility: It is likely ELM will be solution-mined. My simple chemistry suggests there is only so much can be dissolved in water, requiring several passes to remove high grade potash. Additional process means additional cost and time.
Open-pit mining of potash is hard to appreciate because there is no precedent and as a result the SP has suffered.
