Given the likelyhood of many national governments adopting citizen ID smart cards it is highly probable that such governments will open up those cards for other bodies such as regional government and also to private bodies such as banks. MyKad in Malaysia is an example.
Given this, it is reasonable to expect that public transport bodies in say the US or countries in Europe will in many cases have debit or credit card functions built-in to national ID cards.
National cards compatible with ERG's fare system. I like that.
