The difference is trading and investing. Sure you can trade bitcoin and risk it on highly volatile coins that arguably have no intrinsic value. Very high risk and very high reward. Gold being a store of wealth for over 5000 years and with a market cap 10 times that of bitcoin will be safer returns but less returns. Investing you would normally expect to hold over 12 months, anything else I woud consider trading. Up to you really and your risk/reward profile.
