"Mr Smith said good performances were put in by takeover prospects - retailer Coles Myer ended three cents higher at $13.82 and building products company CSR jumped 10 cents to $3.34.
"(It's) interesting to note that six of the 20 leaders index are perceived to be shortlisted for takeover," he said. "
