Err.. do you understand the concept of ex dividend?
movements are more likely due to dividend washing and other trading strategies around such events rather than your 'single track' "shorts are in control" call Bob... give us a couple of days to show the shorts outstanding numbers and i think this will confirm this.
One thing i do note is liquidity / volumes are dropping - more likely to get random price swings under such conditions.
