Horsa,not exactly beating the war drum, old son. But my "pacifism" ends when it comes down to defending me, mine, or my country. I have no aversion to extreme violence in a defensive situation.
China? I dont see a threat from China at present. In the future? Possibly. The time WILL no doubt come when countries will attack not just for minerals, but for food and water. Take even Singapore.....they get water from Malaysia. There was a disagreement years back & Singapore was on record as saying if their water was cut off, they would have no option but to attack.... yes, I concede that our vast unpopulated tracts of land would be tempting to an overpopulated country. ......and then there is oil & gas, sigh. But the US would always defend us....wouldnt they? After all, we host some of their most important defence sites.
