Very easy to understand. Fed cannot have people putting their money into gold otherwise liquidity problems are further exaserbated. They will hit and hit and hit gold because the alternative is much worse for them. They will let the reins go eventually, but not right now. They cannot have their bail out money going into gold, it will defeat the purpose.
