I understand what you are saying, however need to disagree to a certain extent. I too have worked in countries (and still do) where corruption is endemic. If you are suggesting for one minute that SDL management will engage in this type of practice, I believe you don't give them enough credit. Social mapping, land owner agreements, royalties, payments for police and govt services via MOU's are common and can be made to work. Payments are certainly made for services in other countries which we take for granted in OZ (and other western nations), however they are not necessarily corrupt.
I believe SDL has exceptional business ethics and to suggest otherwise is just rubbish. It is also extremely disrespectful, however thats just me. No offence to you, and you make some valid points, however I believe you are off the mark if you think SDL needs to get dirty to do business in this part of the world. It will not be easy for them, however my money and mouth says they can achieve what is planned. Good luck
