Newton's laws only work IF time comes in discrete units. Consider acceleration. This is an increase in velocity per unit of time. We use seconds as the SI unit, but that is just convenience. If time was continuous, then acceleration would always be infinite when a particle starts moving. Even if time comes in 10E-40 seconds, that allows acceleration to work. But it would appear continuous to us in real life.
