exactly, welfare is cycled through the economy. that's not an argument for more or less welfare.
therefore being reliant on govt dollars is neither economically good or bad - thats a moral argument.
there are of course points to be made about efficiency of govt dollars.
the ageing population highlights a reliance on individual income tax - corporate tax contributions are coming under increased scrutiny and questions over their willingness to contribute. but it is not only ageing but the rise of technology, -robotics and ai - that will change the way we think of employment. how will there be jobs when a machine can build a machine to do the job?
