The comments came as Australian Workers Union national secretary Paul Howes accused Mr Purvinas of waging a "one-man jihad" against Qantas, and the ACTU intervened in a brawl between unions representing the airline's workers.
Mr Howes accused Mr Purvinas of engaging in "bizarre" conduct. "This is about our members doing work they are doing right now. It's not about taking work off the ALAEA," Mr Howes said. Mr Purvinas declined to respond.
