    I think it's because in general, IT geeks aren't very practical people. Either that or they think that a 10-step process is more sophisticated than a simple a one-step process.

    "Oh but a one-step process is not secure". Well figure out how to make it secure! That's your job, idiot!

    It will sort itself out eventually, but the trade off will be that they'll have created a surveillance state. They've got their noses in everyone's business. It will be interesting to see how they cope when they find out that their own personal information is being spied upon.
