As a bemoaner, I'd say the old model still works but neoliberalism is not true economics but a captured discipline. One which tells us everything they want us to know. Even when it is disproved, they carry on regardless. Barely a bump in the road.

Its neoliberalism that has weakened the Commons and disempowered and disenfranchised The People. While on the other side, it has financially empowered the plutocrats/oligarchs who are now financial gorillas willing to throw democracy on the pyre if it doesn't agree with their ambitions.

All in imo.
