But NSW showed us the way: very few restrictions on its citizens, economic or social, and mostly a 'no mask' policy, very few lockdowns compared to other major states and thankfully, now the Sydney CBD recovering faster than Melbourne. So if NSW could achieve this for its citizens, why not Victoria?

It was Daniel Andrews' refusal in Victoria to initially allow Australian Defence Force personnel to be in charge of quarantined hotel residents that led to the loss of 801 of the 820 deceased, because the virus was transmitted into aged care facilities from families whose parents had multiple job locations in security/aged care. Pure arrogance because 'Andrews knew best', and yet in Victoria (where I live) we've suffered the most job losses and restrictions on permitted activities of any Australians. Small business closures have also occurred to an unprecedented extent.

Unfortunately the Labor governments' failures in Vic, Qld and WA affect MYR adversely of which the worst is Victoria. The Liberal governments in Tasmania and to some extent SA have been better, but certainly not perfect.

We can't be a hermit society for ever. The reluctance to keep state borders open, and our international borders closed is costing MYR a big amount in lost sales and profit - many Sydneysiders no longer view Melbourne as a cultural, shopping and dining mecca - and as John King said, only one in seven international students (compared to I think 2019) have returned to Melbourne to study, another loss for MYR.
