Numbers in the Melbourne CBD are still significantly below what they were 'pre-COVID' but my wife catches Metro Trains every weekday during the peaks and remarks that passenger numbers are on an upward curve, and all seats are typically taken plus some standees on her trips. Previously, the trains at times such as an 0830 arrival at Southern Cross or Flinders Street would be jam packed with the maximum number of standees possible.
I have been on St Kilda Road Yarra Trams occasionally during weekday peak periods - the world's most frequently served tram/streetcar route - and patronage is beginning to be very good again, though down on what it was.
The threats of Premiers like now hospitalised Andrews (Victoria), plus McGowan in WA and Palaszczuk in Qld to reimpose State border restrictions and lockdowns at a moment's notice if there's minimal coronavirus cases is needlessly cowering and scaring Australians, and creating unwarranted anxiety about working in offices. On top of that, people arguably do not like wearing masks, especially in a work setting they are ugly and restrict social activity.
Given that Melbourne is the worst affected state capital with Andrews having mismanaged coronavirus far more than for example Ms Berejiklian in NSW (who by and large has done an outstanding job), Sydney and other state capitals should be better for MYR.
