Pyrovatex CP NEW is a decent flame reatrdent in terms of promoting charring and preventing afterglow which is what it's job is. Application of Pyrovatex tends to hamper some of the mechanical properties of the fabric - tensile strength, etc. - and there are complaints about breatheability. From what I've read and seen in video, Alexium's product seems to perform better as a flame retarding agent.

Chemically, Pyrovatex does contain formaldehyde - a known carcinogenic (chemical that can cause cancer upon exposure) - however, the levels are below 75 ppm which adheres to most legal and industry standards.
