It could be that I have jumped the gun on this one. Is Dan Shelly speaking about allogeneic manufactured "off the shelf" cells from an ultimate goal perspective for OmniCAR in the commercialised setting (way off down the track), do others think?
As far as clinical trials go, getting FDA approval for our OmniCAR trials would be more readily achieved using autologous derived cells. If Car-T trials weren't restricted to treating the sickest of the sick, then clinical trials using patient cells may well see greater safety and efficacy results.
Steven states in the latest podcast with Tim Boreham that autologous cell manufacturing is the traditional and proven method to date. We don't have the data on allo yet, so auto is the safest until the data is out on allo. So, was Dan's preso at the World Oncology Cell Therapy Congress in Boston April more about "selling" OmniCAR and CellPryme to those biotechs investigating allogeneic trials of their own, perhaps, and more about where our platforms could position any and all developers of immunotherapies?
There's also the possibility that the co. could be thinking ahead and applying for INDs for both scenarios... no harm in asking, right? Afterall, as DS explains, there are as many as 33 possible antigens expressed by AML patients... and cancer cells operate to dodge the immune system by changing specific antigen expression.
I don't know... wouldn't it just be better for the co. to inform us via an update on our trial designs??? I would have thought so.
