OneSteel looks to China ore export

OneSteel Whyalla plans to export iron ore to China over the next five months.
The steelworks is planning to truck 200,000 tonnes of iron ore from its Iron Knob mine to its port in Whyalla.
In the past, dust from trucking haematite has damaged the environment and caused pink staining, and also led to respiratory problems in the local community.
OneSteel chief executive Mark Parry says the company has gone to great lengths to ensure it will not happen again, including using a different route on the outskirts of Whyalla, away from built-up areas.
"We've got a long history of moving material through that area and through that wharf and we know that that has very little impact on the community," he said.
The project will last for up to five months, with four to five trucks operating 24-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week.
