Not exactly the same as the xTV remote which uses phones but doesn't need an app, however not too shabby nonetheless.

Offering a different suite of healthcare options to xTV  but encroaching on the same space nonetheless.  

Being in the US market already is a plus, however it may cause issues if xTV want to move into the Australian healthcare market.

Oneview Healthcare's software platform is used by patients in Australia to make their time in hostpital more bearable.
Mark McCloskey was recuperating in hospital from knee surgery when he first started thinking about developing a product that would have made his experience less horrendous.

After spending days battling other patients for the television remote, the Irish entrepreneur was inspired by an airline in-flight entertainment system which he realised could be adapted to give hospital patients the same kind of individualised experience.

It took nine years but McCloskey has turned the idea into a $200 million company, which listed on the Australian Securities Exchange on St Patrick's Day, March 17. Oneview Healthcare is the first Irish company to list in Australia, which is also its biggest market.

The Australian connection is former banker James Fitter, who McCloskey met in 2012. Fitter is now the company's chief executive. But the decision to list here is interesting given it has bigger global aspirations.

Oneview is a software company which has developed a platform designed for hospital patients. The software is downloaded into a handheld tablet or smartphone connected to a digital television and provides a number of functions to make time in a hospital ward more bearable.

It serves partly as an entertainment system for patients who can access television, movies, books and music but also as a communications system. Patients can also use it to talk to friends and family via Skype.

But the system is also integrated into hospitals' systems, which allows patients to access information about their condition and monitor their progress. Doctors can also use it to pull up medical records and X-rays when they are consulting patients.

Oneview raised $62.4 million when it listed last week at $3.58 per share. The stock has since risen 11 per cent.

Australia's ability to attract global software companies as well as retaining the ones based here is a hot topic. Australia's biggest tech success story Atlassian listed on the Nasdaq last year for $US5 billion, triggering a debate about how to keep local tech talent at home.
