    I don't suggest that everything in this article stands up to the rigour of fact, but the Marinduque disaster is a thorn in the side of everyone trying to progress mining in the country. Where politicians oppose mining they are quick to cite Marinduque to justify their stance regardless of its relevance to the projects being proposed in their districts.
