The PSOE denies that reports about the Cáceres mine were hidden

Belén Fernández has asked Unidas Podemos "not to confuse citizens and to retract in an exercise of responsibility".

The spokeswoman for the municipal group of the PSOE in the City of Cáceres, Belén Fernández, has denied that in the previous legislature with Luis Salaya as mayor reports were hidden about the lithium mine that is to be built in the area of Valdeflores, and has asked Unidas Podemos "not to confuse the citizens and retract in an exercise of responsibility".

Thus, through a press release, the socialist mayor has criticized the policy of "defamation that something remains" that, in her opinion, has been carried out by the purple formation when it has said that technical reports unfavorable to the mine had been hidden, while recalling that, after these accusations, "they have the obligation to report to the prosecutor's office any act that could constitute a crime".

Thus, Fernández recalled that the previous local government team "suitably attended" to the request of Unidas Podemos, regarding the delivery of the technical and legal reports that the city council of Cáceres sent to the Junta de Extremadura, related to the considerations on the environmental aspects of the project. "Both reports were sent to them with total transparency," he defended.

"What they are talking about now is documentation from the period of prior consultations that is carried out in all ordinary procedures, and which is based on a text in which the signatories of the same make subjective assessments, report on aspects for which they were not competent or that were not the subject of the request of the Junta de Extremadura", Explained.

In view of this, as he added, the director of the Urban Development Office, which is responsible for making the technical report, "transferred a series of corrections of a technical nature to correct, which because they were not addressed, did not incorporate some aspects of the initial text into the final report".

These considerations on which the director of the Office made the corrections, "are contextualized at the time when, once the open-pit mine project was rejected, a series of general lines are transferred on what could be the definitive underground mine project, a project that we remember was not presented until June 2024, therefore, these considerations were made on the basis of an initial document in which a brief presentation of the project that would be developed later was made".

On this point, Fernández has stressed that everything reported so far, "is not based on the project registered last June, which we still do not know in Cáceres because it has been declared PREMIA by the Junta de Extremadura, but on a document of general lines".

In this sense, he has shown his "concern" for the future of Cáceres that "involves knowing the details of the final project". "We believe that Unidas Podemos portrays itself by generating confusion around assessments made prior to the development of this project," he stressed.

"The report that Unidas Podemos has leaked contained subjective assessments and exceeded some of the interpretations made on these general lines, in addition to not adjusting to the content that had been requested by the Junta," stressed Fernández, who has asked Unidas Podemos to "make a real exercise of transparency".

And it is that, in the same way that they have "leaked" the initial document of considerations to the previous consultations, he asks them to also make known the proposal for corrections made by the ultimate responsible, who is the director of the Office of Urban Development. "This one has been hidden," concluded the socialist.
