My thoughts are as follows:

Regarding the protests, NIMBYs are the same everywhere. Remember Adani (I personally opposed it on climate change grounds)? Also keep in mind a previous post, which showed the EU as a whole (and Spain in particular) are seen to be quite and very anti-mining, respectively. As for the University professors, I wonder which ones are objecting? If they were from the hard-science faculties, I might be concerned, but the local campus seems to be soft-sciences or completely irrelevant.

Also, although unlikely, don't underrstimate the Russia factor. A project like this would be inmensely damaging to their interests. From what I've read, their influence on Spain is reasonably strong (probably a hold-over from the Civil War days).

As to the other Directors buying in or not, still early days. Mr Welschinger might just be the start of it.
