I am not saying MEL is a WPL, but consider the following:

# Every dollar invested in WPL in Oct 82, Oct 92 and Oct 02 is as of yesterday's close worth about $44.40, $9.69 and $2.86 respectively.

# Every dollar invested in WPL in Oct 82, Oct 92 and Oct 02 is producing a dividend in 2012 of $1.44, $0.31 and $0.09 respectively.

Imo, there is a powerful reason to think long term when investing in companies with a decent chance of a significant future income stream both in terms of capital gain and dividend steam.

So many Kiwi's on here this morning!
