Yes, I think you're dead right about a big co sniffing them, one of their recent announcements seemed to hint at that possibility. More likely to be a friend takover or merger when you consider that AXI had no luck in trying to grab them cheap.

The problem with buying the stock is the liquidity (number of shares traded) but AXI had poor liquidity as well (which has improved of late). So if you buy these babies you had better be prepared to hold.

AXI has gone so well, I'm very happy with my investment. I expect some consolidation at the point, but it could take another good run on the half yearly report.
