vayama i dont think you will ever get rid of suffering and its many guises
as this is part of our programming
we are also programmed to learn and adapt so perhaps meditation, cognitive behaviour therapy might help us to alleviate suffering to a degree
but I don't think you will ever get rid off it monks in temples might be able to come close to it but these guys are working 24/7 on meditation, cognitive behaviour therapy or whatever form it takes in buddhism
the minute they stop working on it they go back to being instinct driven also i have my doubts that they ever get free from instincts even when they are meditating 24 hours a day and think of it this way how difficult is it to get away from our programming most people couldnt be bother they would just prefer to be animals eg haters of boat people
loneliness is just programming by the way...to be part of community has survival value. It can be overcome with meditation and cognitive behaviour therapy but most people can't be bothered so they give into the feeling and seek out company ie join clubs, visit friends, get married and have children etc. it is much easier.
