Of interest from some of the articles referenced is that Exoil/Santos et al drilled and discovered gas in 1963/1964 but it was not till 1984 that the gas fields were developed and gas pipelines to Darwin built. Also that in developing the gas fields 22 discovery and 14 production wells were drilled. The main development phase seems to have taken 2 years after the fields lay idle for 20 plus years.....I guess no one was looking for gas back then and it was not till the mid 80's that the fields became economic.

Same story nowadays....Higher gas demand and prices and less of the easy to get stuff, has lead to new technologies and methods to extract gas that was once considered uneconomic.

You have probably seen the CTP announcement on 29 May 2009 re gas plays in EP82 however refer below as the info is interesting esp when read with Dengots referenced articles.

Also of interest is that since CTP was floated it has more than doubled its permit area....Talk about getting rid of the competition......
