IMO any taxpayers funds granted to Universities should be used exclusively for the education of Aussie students, not to subsidise the education of foreign students.#
Again, IMO, the business of providing education for foreign students should be on a commercial basis only and Australian taxpayers who have never benefitted from a tertiary education (70% of our working population) should not be asked to pay for an "academic elite" who then as professionals such as doctors, dentists, accountants, solicitors etc charge very high commercial fees for services to the working class who have been incapable for whatever reason to get a tertiary education.
That said, doctors who 'bulk bill" exclusively should be the exception, IMO.
Seek carried ads for GPs a week ago , one for Aubury & another for Port Douglas offering salaries of $300K to $400K P/A + benefits. with dentists not far behind.
, $1500/day is 5 times the average salary with specialists being nearly twice that. No wonder that there is a populist revolt brewing as evidenced on Social Media.
It seems unfair for a person on $20/hr to have to pay PAYE and then cant afford to visit a doctor because of the gap payment and dont mention the dentist where such a worker has to pay the full shot!
IMO, the purpose of a broad taxpayer funded/subsitised tertiary education system should be to moderate professional services pricing, not to make multi-millionaires out of a professional elite.
# The Morrison Government has virtually snuffed out the Chinese Foreign Student program by its anti-China rhetoric and, IMO, Universities who have become addicted to this extra source of income will simply have to downsize like other service industries starved of Chinese tourism.
