cash at bank? banks keep cash? I'm heavily short on BOQ, and those guys according to their last AR only kept $75m of cash against $30b of deposits, and their cash position was deteriorating at a rate of 50% yoy... their shareholders saved their hides a couple months ago, but next time?

Presumably, if MGX kept $400m in deposits with BOQ, then the breakup would be something like $1m cash, $50m sitting with other banks, $250m in loans due from people buying overpriced houses, $80m in loans due from companies that do better jobs mining shareholders than running businesses (QAN, BBG, BSL, AXM, jeez what an endless list), and about $19m in loans due from ladettes spending big on high heels.

How the hell do you figure the cash is sitting in the bank waiting to be invested?

It needs to be called in first by the bank from their borrowers. Just look at how much success the Greek, Spanish, Dutch, etc. banks are having with that atm...
