I had a look a the Miller–Urey experiment. It appears to attempt to deal with the origins of life.
As mentioned before the theory of evolution only deals with changes after life started, and while it doesn't exactly satisfy all my curiosity I find it intriguing that such a simple theory explains the diversity of life once it started - that is if you believe it does.
