It seems like the suit is suing for the initial loan amount as well, having read the age article today. It has added up NSW loans written in that 3 years. Surely logic would say it should only include the excess charges and may some small punitive damages which could be the interest but def not the capital component.

This case seems more of a headline grabber for the lawyers than anything else. Mrs Gray was perhaps taken advantage of given her specific case but for people who had one loan the fees are justified as earlier post stated.

E.g a I join jetts gym, there is no contract pperiod $150 join fee and $50 a month fee. If I quit after a month I can't sue them for charging 200 for one month.

Only thing from all this is I wonder how new legislation will impact margins, although it may lead to increased volume. Any publicity is good publicity also :)
