Have to agree PeterP with your comments here (not so sure about your observations on China and Gold though - we will leave that for another thread LOL).
BioFuels were initally introduced so as to use up waste products ie wood waste and garbage (biomass) - now what is happening is that other biomass ie crops of corn and sugar are being used which in turn as you say Peter is resulting in deforestation and escalating crop (and therefore food) prices.
The EU is certainly having a re-think about biofuels as the current way of production is not the way of the future for both our planet environmentally or economically.
"Brussels announced a rethink of its plans to promote energy crops as scientists warned some biofuels could be more damaging to the atmosphere than fossil fuels.
Stavros Dimas, European Environment Commissioner, admitted the EU had underestimated the dangers of causing food shortages of rainforest destruction by dictating a binding target for 10 per cent of all EU road fuels to come from "green" sources by 2020."
Who after all wants food inflation? So that you can profit from some agricultural companies rise in sp only to pay for it in what you buy at the supermarket?
