They have an auction leading up to the opening at 10-00am where they match buying and selling overlap. You can put in a bid at whatever price you like but will only be exercised at if it matches up with those on the sell side. The indicative price is displayed with the number of excess shares shown.
Watch out for late bids right on the knocker.
Similar auction occurs in the 10 minutes after the close at 4-00pm - finalised at 4-10pm.
Both these auctions are worthwhile watching as they can give you a good indication of what the traders are up to. A good time to buy or sell as you can lock in a trade and be pretty well sure it will be filled at a set price,
