It could be a combination of factors. They have stated that some large clients did not meet their margin calls. That means that there are some large losses of asset value that will now be met by the other clients who didnt suffer such losses.
The good clients will end up paying for the bad clients plus any bad activities of the broker itself.
It all sounds very bad for all investors.
