With all due respect, ANZ have been getting external advice, and it is my understanding that they have even changed legal firms since the beginning of this saga.
It would be normal for them to use their own lawyers on the company payroll to do the nitty gritty but I would hazard a guess that the top level advice comes from outside and the ANZ management needs to treat that with much caution. ANZ management probably know all the facts by now. The external lawyers maybe less so.
