The margin loans were provided by Opes, ANZ only provided the wholesale finance. They had no relationship with the individual. The people that use the analogy of the house mortgage are misguided. A better analogy would be the titles of a company share apartment building being pooled with a company who then uses them as collateral to borrow money and lend it back to the apartment owners.
