The Ruralitic fair, organized in Aurillac from August 27 to 29, highlights digital initiatives in the rural world. Among the exhibitors is the company Alrena Technologies, which has created a connected medical suitcase. Its goal: to remedy the shortage of doctors.

It is an observation on which everyone agrees: the shortage of doctors in rural areas is growing, gradually displacing an increasing number of inhabitants from healthcare services. Faced with this observation, two former doctors, a business manager and a telecommunications specialist decided to join forces in 2015 to create a 100% digital solution to the problem of medical deserts. At the Ruralitic fair, organized in Aurillac (Cantal), from August 27 to 29, the company Alrena Technologies presents its now largely successful project: the connected medical suitcase, also called "Smart Medicase".
The connected medical suitcase: a new concept

“The Smart Medicase makes it possible to overcome the distances and areas where the usual means of communication can be faulty to ensure a link, in real time, between the firefighters, paramedics, nurses and a doctor located in a hospital or a care center ”, explains Julia Barrel, the project director.

In Cantal, the elected officials of the country of Gentiane want to experience the salary of doctors (May 2019)

This connected suitcase contains all the medical equipment present in a hospital to carry out basic examinations. It can be used in the field, for example by a firefighter or a nurse, in any area, while being linked to a private doctor or hospital staff via a camera. From a distance, they can assess the seriousness of the situation and decide on possible care.

It is no longer up to the patient, especially if he lives far from a place of care, to move. With this connected suitcase, medicine comes to him, without necessarily displacing the often small teams of emergency physicians and without cluttering the emergency services for secondary consultation reasons.
    A tested and approved device

The device has already been tested at the Périgueux hospital in the Dordogne. According to a medico-economic study carried out by the Medical Informatics Department of the same hospital center, out of the 158 interventions carried out during a year with the connected suitcase, a third of the patients were redirected without going through the emergency room. In the first four months of 2019, the suspicion of a heart attack was ruled out in 90% of the cases of chest pain. Finally, SMUR outings were reduced by 40%, leaving more time for health personnel to carry out heavy medical interventions.
    Rewards ...

In November 2018, through the firefighters of Dordogne, users of the solution, the medical suitcase received the 1st Prize for Innovation, awarded by the National School of Fire Brigade Officers.
