I'm an Accountant. Not much you can do once you have realised a Capital Gain. Definately nothing you can do to offset it the next financial year. the only real options are the difference between trader and investor or realising losses from other shares to reduce it. Capital losses can always be carried forward to reduce future capital gains. i always said i would love a big Capital gains tax bill. think my dream may finally come true. You can defer payment and lodgement of tax returns if you lodge through a registered tax agent from october to May the following year.
