Should we petition (lobby) the funders to halt funding for the buckwheat because it's already being intensively protected, and to instead spend money on an alternate and better cause?
The CBD likes official avenues...petitions and lobbying are two of them.
They play dirty tactics, yet we could expose things via nothing more than honesty.
These lawyers and professional activists earn a pretty penny!
They should be held to account for wasting money on preserving something that is already being protected - and which if left alone will ultimately perish, given global warming and pestilence.
FinancingCBD’s budget has grown rapidly. Total revenue for 2002 was $1.6 million, but by 2017 had exceeded $20.1 million, up from $14.7 million in 2016. [48] [49]
In the early years of CBD, according to a New York Times profile, the “biggest benefactor” was controversial left-of-center Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss, giving through his Wyss Foundation. From 2003-2006 the Wyss Foundation gave at least $500,000 to CBD. Kieran Suckling stated in 2010 that Wyss had pledged an individual donation of an additional $10 million to be given to CBD between 2007 and 2011. [50] [51]
The Sandler Foundation has also been a very large institutional donor to CBD, giving $7.7 million from 2003 through 2017. [52]
Other left-leaning foundations that have donated large total sums to CBD include the following:
- Wilburforce Foundation – $1 million. [53]
- Environment Now – $849,000. [54]Environment Now is a foundation based in Southern California that stylizes itself as a “SWAT team” for the environment. [55] It has also donated to the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club. [56] As of 2016 it reported net assets of $30 million. [57]
- Frankel Family Foundation – $815,000. [58] This foundation has also donated to org, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Union of Concerned Scientistsand the Arizona affiliate of Planned Parenthood. [59] It is based in Chicago and as of 2017 reported annual contributions of more than $1 million and net assets of $7 million. [60]
- Marisla Foundation – $615,000. [61]
- Argosy Foundation – $415,000. [62] This foundation is affiliated with the ConsultatFunders for Reproductive Equityive Group on BiologiEducational Foundation of Americacal Diversity, the Environmental Grantmakers Association, and the . [63]
