I myself would prefer to have a total TO anytime. But what if in a very unlikely situation that there isn't any offers and we're stuck between other options? Or if FARJOY has a different view?
Digressing, EGO had a consolidation (mind you against the will of a lot of SH's) of 100:1. Consolidations most of time result in a drop in SP. Going back to the Alcoa offer, they also had their back to the wall, so you can say at least they survived to fight another war. They also had a 249D as well shortly after that. So it's difficult to judge the effects.
