I think the bar should be higher. I quite support options for directors and senior staff as a means of remuneration, especially when a company is trying to establish itself in the market, keeping director fees down and salaries a bit lower, until cash flow improves. But over four years, I'd suggest a tiered structure:
e.g vesting after 1 year at 10 cents
after 2 years at 15 cents
after 3 years at 25 cents
aftr 4 years at 50 cents
