My way of thinking for my situation...
By selling the options and taking the capital gain (hopefully having held them for the required 12 months tp get the 50% cgt discount) and then buying back in again (shares) could be advantagous over exercising options and selling the shares after 12 months or more later as it would allow one to spread CGT liabilities over different tax years rather than the whole amount of CGT being brought to account in one tax year.
Everyones personal circumstances are different .
So always do your own research and calculations &/or seek professional advice.
