Generally as b1212 stated it will depend on the details pertained in the offer from the takeover party. Usually there is always plenty of time to accept the offer from the takeover party & within this time the heads will normally trade around the new "offered price" hence the options should follow accordingly (where of course you can sell on market)
Generally you will also have enough time to "convert" your oppies to heads to be able to accept the fully paids offer as well, so option holders generally are not disadvantaged.
This is my take on it but it always depends on the conditions/details outlined in the "take over" offer.
