On the mainstream news the other day I listened to some parliamentarian's response to Optus's loss of its customer's private details. He spoke of imposing massive fines upon those that breach the parliament's privacy laws, as Optus just did.

Now let's take a closer look at his suggestion.

In threatening massive fines, he acknowledged the fact that Optus's customers had been wronged and therefore they deserved justice.

But instead of suggesting a just solution, he actually aggravated their injury.

    How so? you ask.

Well, according to his solution, the outcome is this: the customer is wronged, and the parliament (the beneficiary of the fine) is compensated.

    Now there's justice for you.

    But it doesn't stop there.

Optus will likely recover the cost of the fine with an increase in charges or a reduction of service at the existing price.

So, if we follow the parliamentarian's solution to its logical conclusion, we'll see that Optus harmed its customers, the parliament takes the compensation, and the final cost is borne by the customers!

What those parliament's lack in moral integrity, they more than make up for in brazen craftiness!

Do you ever get the feeling that they don't like us?
