Helps to explain why our uncontestable moat of scientific data has not had immediate effect on most doctors.
Surely there must be some established way of challenging malicious and erronous research. Also, when journals find out, surely they would blacklist fraudulant authors. Not sure I am 100% bought into the scale of this conspiracy. Absolutely belive it for sales reps but not for academics. Reputation and fame is their primary goal - otherwise why not go private sector?
